ok kid who posted before me anti flag is a lame ass, corporate, emo band that doesnt know s--- about anarchism. the first true anarchist band was crass, they formed in 1978 and had true drive towards womens right, anarchism, and peace. crass was the first and the last. |

`Hi Shallamare,
Man, good question! I guess we would have to go back to recorded music to answer that one... we could go back further, but that's a bit excessive.
As far as anarchist band I would have to say Pete Segeer (though he was more a revolutionary and a Commie), The Weavers or Woody Guthrie. Both guy's sang with The Weavers for a time there. This was in the 30's, 40's and 50's. There is some interesting history with the group, they were black-listed during the McCarthy era as threats to the state.... People would know the Weaver by the song Wheem Oh Wheh, Pete Segeer by Puff the Magic Dragon, and Woody Guthrie by This Land is Your Land - This Land is My Land...
(removed)
But as far as the punk sound goes, I would say the MC5 from the sixties, or even early Pink Floyd with Syd Barret, or The Velvet Underground fits the bill. Sound wise, I myself would say Michigan's MC5 is the truest form of early anarchist punk! They really did hold anarchist political views - not just the punk ethic ideals of social anarchism. The Ramones (and the American punks) predate the --- Pistols by two or three years as well. The --- Pistols are year one, and "ground zero" as far as UK punk goes (76), with the Clash riding right on their tails (as far as whole played the first concert).
